Kristen Litvak

by day is a licensed therapist (LPC).  At first glance, her bright blue hair can make her appear as a living anime character.  The hair is striking and serves her well in her occupation as a trauma therapist with a local Counseling Center near Charlotte.  The hair often helps disarm her clients (especially children) helping them to become comfortable and opening up more quickly.  In addition to her work, she volunteers time with domestic abuse survivors and with the cause "Give an hour", which is a network of mental health providers who provide free services for military veterans and their families.

Half time Proposal
Much like a superhero, she has an alter ego.  When not working she becomes Psy*ren, both her derby name and persona.  The name was inspired by her occupation.  Psy*ren is a blue haired, tattooed covered, uniquely dressed flat track derby skater.  On the track, the sweeter side of Kristen is forgotten.  She and all of the girls competing in flat track derby are physical athletes who deliver and receive more than their fair share of pain and punishment.  Injuries are common despite the protective gear.  She started her career with the now defunct Sweet Union Roller Girls and has spent the past few years as a member of a Charlotte based Roller Squad, but now she is moving on to become the founding member of the brand new G*Force, Gastonia Roller Derby Club,  an all-girl skating team.  Kristen also co-founded Bank City Brawlers, a coed team, with her husband and participates on multiple all star teams when not skating or working with G*Force.  With the new challenge of G*Force, she has taken on even more responsibilities outside of the rink.

It is apparent that derby has become her life.  She met her husband James through derby.  He is a referee, skater and coach. James actually proposed to Kristen, uhhh, Psy*ren in front of their fans after a roller derby bout in early 2011.  I had asked Kristen to tell me about her life.  She said simply; work, skate, sleep and repeat.  If you meet Kristen, you would know that she throws "have fun" into that mix.
