What will you find in your refrigerator if you looked right now?
Joey: Mostly beverages – I don’t cook. Cherry Coke Zero for me, Diet Mt Dew and Dr Pepper Ten for my husband, juices, distilled water. Perhaps some dead animal to feed my husband’s carnivorous side (grin).
What was the last expletive that you used? Joey: The F-word.
When was the last time you cried?
Joey: Yesterday. I cry pretty much every day. I’m firmly convinced a good cry is a daily way of taking out the soul’s trash so nothing rots or gets a funny smell.
What is the worst tasting thing you have ever eaten? Joey: Wasabi. Can’t figure out why someone would want to ingest edible battery acid.
In the film of your life, who plays you and what is the title? Joey: Jewel Staite in her role as Kaylee in the movie Serenity (and the most awesome series ever, Firefly). The title would be “Not to Worry, Captain – Everything’s Shiny!”.
What is the last furry thing that you touched? Joey: My dogs – they’re collapsed in heaps behind me now while I type.
When was the last time you had a hangover?
Joey: Never had one. Don’t like the taste of alcohol, so I rarely drink.
Do you remember the last time you saw a random act of kindness?
Joey: Yes – I was the grateful recipient. It had been a long day and was going through the grocery line with a lot of heavy stuff (remember, fridge full of beverages). The man standing behind me in line helped put the heavy stuff back in my cart for me. My feet hurt and I was tired – it was amazing how it lifted my spirits!
If your iPod could only hold 3 songs, what would they be?
Joey: This one is impossible. Not sure I have only three favorite songs, so I’ll go with three that jump to mind as favorites right now: Fly by the Wilkinsons, Teenage Dream by Darren Hayes/Glee cast, I Won’t Let Go by Rascal Flatts.
What are you currently reading?
Joey: The Black Swan by Mercedes Lackey.
Have you ever broken someone’s heart? Joey: With some of the boneheaded decisions I made in my teens, I’m sure I broke my mother’s heart quite a few times, but she loved me anyway, bless her forever. Outside the parental factor, yes, my college boyfriend. Rigors of growing up, but he was such a good guy. Glad we've remained friends to this day.
If personalities had an odor, what would you smell like?
Joey: Probably that chaotic mash-up you get when you walk into a busy fast food restaurant.
You are running in a race and overtake the second-place runner. What position are you now in? Joey: This is one of those trick math questions, right? I’m a left brain girl, so I suck at these. Second, I think. Maybe.
Describe your happy place? Joey: Home. Best place to be, surrounded by my animals and knick-knacks, on my screened porch on a lazy afternoon, reading a book, eating chocolate and drinking Cherry Coke Zero.
What is the longest period that you have ever gone without taking a bath? Joey: Three days. While on a tight book deadline, of course.
What is your theme song? Joey: Don’t think it’s been written, but it would probably be a country song by Martina McBride or Reba McIntyre that would go something like “I’ll Die When I Finish My To Do List”. So maybe the closest one would be “Who Wants to Live Forever” by Queen (also the great secondary theme song to Highlander, so I can live with that – laughter).
Have you ever been spanked or spanked someone as an adult? Joey: I’m a BDSM erotic romance author – what do you think? (grin) Abso-freaking-lutely. On both counts.
What do you do when you feel sad or depressed? Joey: Work until the feeling goes away. Since I’m always working, it’s not a difficult strategy. Though excessive chocolate eating and an occasional spontaneous nap might work its way in there, too. A wonderful mentor of mine told me if ever I get down for a prolonged period, the best way to snap out of it is to do something for someone else, volunteer, etc. And she’s right about that – nothing pulls you out of a funk like making someone else’s life better. And even if it doesn't work, you've done something useful rather than wallowing in your own misery!
If you were being attacked by the tickle monster, who would you want it to be? Joey: Ugh, no one. Hate being tickled. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Though okay, if Hugh Jackman offered, maybe for a few seconds I could tolerate it.
Do you believe in ghosts? Why?
Joey: Yes. Since they’re the spirits of those who've departed, and I do believe the soul lives on after the death of the body, it wouldn't make sense NOT to believe in ghosts. While I hope most move on to new journeys, it also makes sense some souls might linger for whatever reason.
Describe the perfect kiss using no more than 5 words?
Joey: Floating underwater without needing breath.
What is your greatest fear?
Joey: I’m the phobia queen – I can rattle off a dozen things that make me catatonic with fright, but I’ll go ahead and choose one. Flying in an airplane.
What is the best dish you can cook? Joey: Hard-boiled eggs. Yeah, go ahead and laugh. Thank God/dess my husband wasn't looking for a good cook.
Do you truly feel loved?
Joey: Yes. I've had that experience twice now. My mother’s love was absolute and undeniable. My husband makes me feel deeply loved and understood every day, an incomparable feeling that makes every other part of my life doable.
