Joey W. Hill answers 25 of the Best

Who was the last person you told "I Love You"?
Joey:  My Husband.

What will you find in your refrigerator if you looked right now?
Joey:  Mostly beverages – I don’t cook. Cherry Coke Zero for me, Diet Mt Dew and Dr Pepper Ten for my husband, juices, distilled water. Perhaps some dead animal to feed my husband’s carnivorous side (grin).

What was the last expletive that you used? Joey:  The F-word.

When was the last time you cried?
Joey:  Yesterday. I cry pretty much every day. I’m firmly convinced a good cry is a daily way of taking out the soul’s trash so nothing rots or gets a funny smell.

What is the worst tasting thing you have ever eaten? Joey:  Wasabi. Can’t figure out why someone would want to ingest edible battery acid.

In the film of your life, who plays you and what is the title? Joey:  Jewel Staite in her role as Kaylee in the movie Serenity (and the most awesome series ever, Firefly). The title would be “Not to Worry, Captain – Everything’s Shiny!”.

What is the last furry thing that you touched? Joey:  My dogs – they’re collapsed in heaps behind me now while I type.

When was the last time you had a hangover?
Joey:  Never had one. Don’t like the taste of alcohol, so I rarely drink.

Do you remember the last time you saw a random act of kindness?
Joey:  Yes – I was the grateful recipient. It had been a long day and was going through the grocery line with a lot of heavy stuff (remember, fridge full of beverages). The man standing behind me in line helped put the heavy stuff back in my cart for me. My feet hurt and I was tired – it was amazing how it lifted my spirits!

If your iPod could only hold 3 songs, what would they be?
Joey:  This one is impossible. Not sure I have only three favorite songs, so I’ll go with three that jump to mind as favorites right now: Fly by the Wilkinsons, Teenage Dream by Darren Hayes/Glee cast, I Won’t Let Go by Rascal Flatts.

What are you currently reading?
Joey:  The Black Swan by Mercedes Lackey.

Have you ever broken someone’s heart? Joey:  With some of the boneheaded decisions I made in my teens, I’m sure I broke my mother’s heart quite a few times, but she loved me anyway, bless her forever. Outside the parental factor, yes, my college boyfriend. Rigors of growing up, but he was such a good guy. Glad we've remained friends to this day.

If personalities had an odor, what would you smell like?
Joey:  Probably that chaotic mash-up you get when you walk into a busy fast food restaurant.

You are running in a race and overtake the second-place runner. What position are you now in? Joey:  This is one of those trick math questions, right? I’m a left brain girl, so I suck at these. Second, I think. Maybe.

Describe your happy place? Joey:  Home. Best place to be, surrounded by my animals and knick-knacks, on my screened porch on a lazy afternoon, reading a book, eating chocolate and drinking Cherry Coke Zero.

What is the longest period that you have ever gone without taking a bath? Joey:  Three days. While on a tight book deadline, of course.

What is your theme song? Joey:  Don’t think it’s been written, but it would probably be a country song by Martina McBride or Reba McIntyre that would go something like “I’ll Die When I Finish My To Do List”. So maybe the closest one would be “Who Wants to Live Forever” by Queen (also the great secondary theme song to Highlander, so I can live with that – laughter).

Have you ever been spanked or spanked someone as an adult? Joey:  I’m a BDSM erotic romance author – what do you think? (grin) Abso-freaking-lutely. On both counts.

What do you do when you feel sad or depressed? Joey:  Work until the feeling goes away. Since I’m always working, it’s not a difficult strategy. Though excessive chocolate eating and an occasional spontaneous nap might work its way in there, too. A wonderful mentor of mine told me if ever I get down for a prolonged period, the best way to snap out of it is to do something for someone else, volunteer, etc. And she’s right about that – nothing pulls you out of a funk like making someone else’s life better. And even if it doesn't work, you've done something useful rather than wallowing in your own misery!

If you were being attacked by the tickle monster, who would you want it to be? Joey:  Ugh, no one. Hate being tickled. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Though okay, if Hugh Jackman offered, maybe for a few seconds I could tolerate it.

Do you believe in ghosts? Why?
Joey:  Yes. Since they’re the spirits of those who've departed, and I do believe the soul lives on after the death of the body, it wouldn't make sense NOT to believe in ghosts. While I hope most move on to new journeys, it also makes sense some souls might linger for whatever reason.

Describe the perfect kiss using no more than 5 words?
Joey:  Floating underwater without needing breath.

What is your greatest fear?
Joey:  I’m the phobia queen – I can rattle off a dozen things that make me catatonic with fright, but I’ll go ahead and choose one. Flying in an airplane.

What is the best dish you can cook? Joey:  Hard-boiled eggs. Yeah, go ahead and laugh. Thank God/dess my husband wasn't looking for a good cook.

Do you truly feel loved?
Joey:  Yes. I've had that experience twice now. My mother’s love was absolute and undeniable. My husband makes me feel deeply loved and understood every day, an incomparable feeling that makes every other part of my life doable.

Thank you, Joey!

Way to go Mistress! I do want to live forever.
Got waaay to much to do yet. I do believe in ghosts, just can't see e'm doesn't mean they aren't there. Please keep up your good work.

Something tells me that your husband eats a pretty big lunch at work. LOL Joey you do know that you can now purchase hard boiled eggs in the dairy aisle so I'd say you're home free. Great interview! :)

Excellent answers Joey. This is why your fans love your books so much, or at least this particular fan, we think a lot alike.

*busts out laughing* Joey I have to admit it cracks me up imagining you dropping the F-bomb! I think you may be on to something with your theory of how to improve a bad or sad mood.
I am eagerly awaiting Taken by a Vampire and Willing Sacrifice. I can't believe we get two books so close together!!!! Not to mention the Vignette "The Bet" which you are posting now on the Forum. You are amazing <3

OMG, I just about lost my sh*t reading this. Still LMAO! And I'm with you on the bath/shower thing Joey, but mine has been a 7-day span, twice! Of course, I was on an Army training exercise in the Mojave desert both times, so it was more by necessity than choice.

Can't wait for "Willing Sacrifice" -- more of the best (Femdom) BDSM is soooooo close ... and Max... *drool*

And of course the vampires -- yet another installment in the BEST. PARANORMAL. BDSM. SERIES. EVER. Can't wait to see more of the interactions between Evan and Niall -- I imagine them to be a bit Daegan-and-Gideon-ish, but with a tad less smart-assedness (Gideon being Lord King of Smart-Asses after all) and Evan being a bit looser than Daegan, but still having that vamp vibe ... *happy sigh*

And speaking of Lord King Smart-Ass and his "Don't Even Think About F*cking With Me" partner ... HALLELUJAH!!!! "The Bet" is finally being paid up and I'm going to be frothing at the mouth waiting for each installment. Which I learned on Thursday morning is not a good thing to read on the bus on the way to college -- I couldn't concentrate for crap in any of my classes for the rest of the day!

Thanks again for writing these amazing stories Joey!

Tracy, there really is never enough time to do it all, is there? Guess we just gotta do the best we can. As Sam Elliott says "I'll get all the sleep I want when I'm dead!" ;>

Thanks, girl! Lol... Yeah, but the pre-boiled ones taste kind of nasty, versus nice and warm, fresh boiled off the stove. Plus, I get the organic, certified humane ones so I don't support all the cruelty to laying hens in the factory farm industry. So far I haven't found any pre-boiled ones that qualify in that regard, and my karmic debt to farm animals is astronomical thanks to all the dog/cat food I have to buy (snort). Glad you enjoyed the interview.

Thanks so much, Betty! I'm so glad to have you as a reader!

Moira, thanks for that offer! I'll keep it in mind (grin). So far I'm about halfway through and I really like it. A bit of a slow start and she's very descriptive, but that's the way books used to be written. Sometimes I think they're too rushed and scarce on description or character development now, so this reminds me how nice it is to see the story build on a solid foundation, preparing for an excellent middle and unforgettable finish - if she's as good as I remember she is (loved her Elves of LA series).

Terry, thank you! Yes, I admit the Southern manners thing runs pretty deep - not much on cursing myself for the sake of cursing, so it usually comes out only in a moment of high emotion or irritation, though I pass no judgment on others who like using it as a regular part of speech (laughter). I have a friend from New Jersey who can make my eyes go round with her creative parsing of expletives! Glad you're enjoying the excerpt (for those who don't know, I post vignettes revisiting my characters there, so if you want free novellas or shorts you can download after reading my books, you'll find them at the forum!) Counting the days until WS and TBV...

Chuckle - Sue, glad you appreciated that! While there is some truth to the response "Stephen King doesn't murder people to write his books - why would an erotic romance author do everything we write about?", on the other hand, if we WANT to try what we write about, I expect we have a lot more latitude in that regard than Stephen does! (laughter)

You made me do the LMAO thing with your nicknames for Daegan and Gideon. Think Daegan would particularly appreciate (and agree) with the one for Gideon, though he might suggest dropping the "Lord" since Gideon is already a hard-to-handle kind of guy (lol). You're right - in fact, in the review Delilah just did over at Riverina Romantics of TBV, she mentioned there is some Daegan/Gideon vibe between Evan and Niall, but it has a litle different tone to it, based on their background/history together (about 300 years' worth!). I'm hoping you all will enjoy them and Alanna as much as you did Vampire Mistress/Trinity.

On the Mojave Desert thing, I just don't get that. Are you saying the guys in charge don't realize even a kickass woman in uniform needs her hot bubble bath at the end of the day? Sheesh, the lack of consideration (laughter)...
