A.P. Fuchs

writes and publishes full-time from Winnipeg, MB, and is most well known for his superhero series, The Axiom-man™ Saga. He spends most of his time writing about zombies and publishing books about them. His shoot ‘em zombie novel, Blood of the Dead, is about just that and, obviously, goes without saying but he’s saying it anyway.

Oh . . . as a few side things, he digs cooking, watching TV, making compost and following the exploits of Superman, Batgirl, Red Robin and Batman and Robin on a monthly basis. He also has a few secrets of earth-shattering proportions, but he’s not telling them now nor ever, and plans on taking them to his grave.

Who was the last person you told "I Love You"?
AP:  My kid.


What will you find in your refrigerator if you looked right now?
AP:  Tons of vegetables as the Mrs and I are doing a detox program called The Clean Programs by Dr. Junger.


What was the last expletive that you used?
AP:  I try not to use those, but they slip now and then. Can’t remember the word. A bad one.


When was the last time you cried?
AP:  With tears, maybe a month ago. Without tears, yesterday, in the shower. Remembered something I did once and tore me up inside.


What is the worst tasting thing you have ever eaten?
AP:  There’s plenty, but roasted chestnuts are on my “never eat again” list.


In the film of your life, who plays you and what is the title?
AP:  Since most people say I look like him, I’ll go with Jason Biggs. A fitting title would be Onward, as the pain and trials I’ve endured nearly killed me on more than one occasion, but I’m still standing. And by “killed me,” I mean that literally, not as a metaphor.


What is the last furry thing that you touched?
AP:  My wife's ladybug pillow!


When was the last time you had a hangover?
AP:  Don’t remember as I gave up getting drunk years ago. My brother came over for some PS3 the other week. I had one beer and an hour later I had a headache. Does that count?


Do you remember the last time you saw a random act of kindness?
AP:  Sadly, no. Wish that wasn't the case. Granted, I’m a homebody and don’t leave the house very often.


If your iPod could only hold 3 songs, what would they be?
AP:  If I had an iPod, they’d probably be: How Great Thou Art, The Last Recluse, American Splendor.


What are you currently reading?
AP:  Clean by Dr. Alejandro Junger.


Have you ever broken someone’s heart?
AP:  If you mean actual heartbreak where someone is genuinely affected by it and doesn’t recover quickly? Unfortunately, yes. I regret it and swore I’d never break a heart again no matter what that might mean for me. Having been someone who has had their heart crushed by someone else, I could never intentionally visit that pain on another. It hurts far too much and, if it truly is a heartbreak by someone you love, it doesn’t repair. Ever. I’d rather be miserable and them be happy then to let what happened to me happen to someone else, especially on my account. There’s far too much pain in the world so if I could avoid visiting that on another and me pay the price, it’s worth it.


If personalities had an odor, what would you smell like?
AP:  Cinnamon.


You are running in a race and overtake the second-place runner. What position are you now in?
AP:  The one before two . . .


Describe your happy place?
AP:  Dark room, small, a few blankets, a firm pillow and sheer peace and quiet. You know? The kind of silence that you can almost hear because it’s so quiet and feels so good. Take me there, please.


What is the longest period that you have ever gone without taking a bath?
AP:  Months, perhaps even up to a year. But that’s not taking a bath. You didn't say anything about breaks between showers.


What is your theme song?
AP:  Though I’m Canadian, “American Splendor” by Eytan Mirsky really resonates. Harvey Pekar and I have a lot in common and I’m saddened he’s gone. Would love to have connected with him somehow, and in the close-knit world of pop culture, comics and books, he and I probably shared similar connections somewhere down the line.


Have you ever been spanked or spanked someone as an adult?
AP:  Growing up, yeah, quite a lot and I’m glad for it. They call it “hitting a child” nowadays, but we also live in a world where people don’t understand the meaning of half of the words they speak and hitting a kid versus spanking them are two different things with two different motives.


What do you do when you feel sad or depressed?
AP:  Sleep. I get very tired and quickly shutdown.


If you were being attacked by the tickle monster, who would you want it to be?
AP:  I don't do tickles.


Do you believe in ghosts? Why?
AP:  Certainly, but not in the dead people sense. As a Christian and having had brushes with the supernatural on both sides of the coin, demons sometimes use the guise of ghosts to interact with people. My wife has had supernatural encounters you wouldn't believe, but that was before she was saved. It’s been fine since.


Describe the perfect kiss using no more than 5 words?
AP:  Soft, deep, meaningful.


What is your greatest fear?
AP:  Standing before God on Judgment Day and not making the cut.


What is the best dish you can cook?
AP:  I do a pretty good shrimp gumbo.


Do you truly feel loved?
AP:  Honestly? No, but that’s something I've always struggled as far back as I can remember. I've been through so much pain that it’s hard to think someone actually cares about me—genuinely cares—despite what they might say. That’s being straight up on the subject.
